The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network has developed a council derived of staff and volunteers to examine/rethink and re-engineer programs for cancer patients within our health system. The mission of this group is to assure delivery of the highest standard of care for cancer patients and their families within the Alexian Health System, by working in active partnership with healthcare providers to strengthen communication among patients, families, caregivers and medical staff. Also, to promote oncology programs and to advocate for patients and families. The structure of this group is patients/survivors, family and staff members. They meet 4-6 times a year at a lunch meeting located at the Life Enrichment Center. This council has worked on the development of a new mentoring program for newly diagnosed cancer patients, input into develop of new website, review of new system-wide oncology book and other ideas developed from the council members themselves based on their experience in the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network.
