Every day of the week Alexian Brothers Hospital Network brings you the most advanced medicine-Alexian Advanced Medicine-in a convenient location to you and your family. A hallmark of Alexian Advanced Medicine is the broad clinical research being conducted at Alexian.

Currently there are over 30 oncology trials open to enrollment covering a wide range of areas including breast, colon, lung, and brain cancer as well as other cancers. These are trials that are being conducted with the most nationally prominent academic medical centers and research organizations.

The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers offers cancer patients the opportunity to participate in the same clinical trials that are conducted at university hospitals without having to travel far from home. Patients can receive the latest treatment for their cancer right here with their Alexian Brothers Medical Center or St. Alexius Medical Center physician.

Clinical trials are studies that evaluate the effectiveness of new drugs or treatment strategies. The development of more effective cancer treatments requires that new and innovative therapies be evaluated with cancer patients. Each clinical trial is designed to find new or better ways to treat cancer patients. In oncology, clinical trials are especially important because, in the absence of high cure rates, nearly all therapeutic approaches are the result of clinical trials.

Clinical trials offer access to new treatments not yet available to the general population. Additionally, patients are monitored closely by physicians in the forefront of cancer research and may be the first to benefit from new treatments.

Both Alexian Brothers and St. Alexius Medical Centers participate in national clinical research studies sponsored by the National Cancer Institute through large Cooperative Groups as well as many large industry trials. Through these national sponsors, we are able to offer clinical trial options for virtually all types of cancer.

We actively participate in Early Detection/Prevention Trials, Treatment Trials, and Quality of Life Trials. Our research team consists of physicians from Medical Oncology, Surgery, Radiation Oncology and Pathology as well as nursing support from the Clinical Oncology Research office.

If you would like more information on the clinical trials offered at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network, you can contact your physician or the Director Oncology Clinical Research: Claudia Fredian, RN, BSN, CCRP at 847-952-7164.
