The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers is a healthcare system approach to oncology services at St. Alexius Medical Center and Alexian Brothers Medical Center. It is an Oncology Clinical Institute that is inspired by the values that shape the Alexian Brothers philosophy of care and a desire to provide cutting-edge, innovative treatment. Our mission is to offer services to meet the needs of cancer patients and their families at Alexian Brothers and St. Alexius Medical Centers.

We are a comprehensive treatment care center utilizing cutting-edge technologies including 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scan, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) CAT Scan and Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as diagnostic tools. The Alexian Brothers Hospital Network continues to be an early adopter of state of the art breast imaging technology. First in the area to incorporate R2 ImageChecker computer assisted detection device; we are now first in the Midwest to complement mammography services with BSGI (breast specific gamma imaging). With approximately 80% of all biopsies being benign or non-cancerous, BSGI may reduce the rate of unnecessary biopsy by evaluating breast abnormalities at a cellular level.

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has accredited us as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Center. In 2010, the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers awarded the Cancer Institute a 3 year full accreditation.

Our survival rates in breast, lung, colorectal, ovarian and bladder cancer exceeds the five-year survival rates set by the National Cancer Database. We also have a quality improvement program which monitors our screening and treatment processes, patient satisfaction and quality outcomes.
